It was only last November. The Bears traveled to Cortez for a playoff game and were shut out 14-0. Less than a year later, a new head coach and a different Rifle team made the long trek to the far southwest portion of the state and earned a well-deserved 47-6 win. Head Coach Ty Leyba was used to lopsided wins during his career as a Rifle player, but tonight’s win is his very first as a head coach. He returned to familiar territory as Rifle dominated Cortez 47-6 in their first game of the season. Things are certainly looking up for the Bears as Leyba brings his own brand of winning football back to his home community.
